Uploading your web site using Terrapin FTP
Uploading your web site using Terrapin FTP
Solution
The instructions shown below are based around Terrapin FTP, but the concept is the same for most FTP clients.
Open up
Terrapin FTP
.
Select
Server > New Connection
or simply press 'Ctrl + N'
In the '
Server Address
' box, type
ftp and then your domain name
(eg: if your domain was mycompany.co.uk then you should enter
ftp.mycompany.co.uk
). Enter your FTP
User name
and
Password
in the relevant boxes (if you do not have this information please contact your account manager).
Click '
Connect
'.
Once connected you will see that the main screen is divided into 6 key areas. The top area can mainly be ignored, although for your information, the top left area of the screen is your connection status and the top right area is the conversation between your computer and our server. The main area to look at are the
four bottom panes
.
The middle panes display folders / files located on our server in your web space. The mid-left area shows the folders on the server, and the mid right area shows the files in the selected folder on the server. The bottom panes display folders / files located on your local machine. The bottom left shows your folders, and the bottom right shows the files that are in that folder.
To upload files simply drag the relevant files from the bottom right hand pane to the mid hand pane. To download files simply drag the relevant files from the mid right hand pane to the bottom right hand pane
. To create folders on the server, simply drag the folder you want from your local folders (bottom left hand pane), to the server folders pane (mid left hand pane).
Files uploaded will be seen via the web immediately after upload.
